Description

Well this is the result of my first play with Adobe Photoshop. I had a lot of fun creating him, as The Lion King is a huge obssession of mine, and Mufasa is my true love. ;)

Just to be clear, I did base the lines on a black and white Disney sketch I found on google images, as my scanner is broken at the moment and I can't play with my own sketches (which will be coloured and uploaded here soon as). I thought it'd be cheating too much to just colour that though, so I did draw over it with my own lines, and I made a few slight alterations along the way. Being a Photoshop novice, I was learning what things did as I went along, so I haven't yet learned any time-saving short cuts. All of this was drawn, coloured and shaded manually with the touchpad on my laptop, which takes forever and is very difficult. :) This took a few days in total to complete, with me working on it every spare minute.

I hope you like it, and hope I don't lose your respect from starting with a sketch that was not my own for reference. My own art that has been completely drawn from scratch by me will be up here as soon as I can get them. I think I made the colours too dark for Mufasa's appearance in the Disney movie, and I'm not sure how I feel about my shading attempts, but if anyone has any suggestions on how I can improve my techniques, I'd be delighted to take them on board. As I said, this is my first experience with Photoshop, and I'm excited to learn how to improve so I can create fan pictures that look like they were taken right out of the movie one day, as I've seen many great artists on DeviantArt create.

Also, please do not use this piece in any way without first asking me. I spent a lot of time on him and am very proud of him.

Pretty cool! I used to do all my coloring and inking with the touchpad of my laptop as well. At the time I was using Corel PSP and I either scanned my own line art or worked with someone else's. :)

I switched to Photoshop and a digital tablet about two years but I'll never forget my touchpad days. ;)
